Day 14 Reporting – 2,024 Words/Day Process Log – Me Vs. Me

Thought 1: A little game I’ve been playing lately is to try to beat my last week’s word count. In the case of the areas I track other than word count, it’s to try to beat the amount of time I spend on them.

It’s really Me vs. Me.

Thought 2: Everything is such a mind game. When I’m convinced that I can’t write extra words or make my daily word count, then I can’t. This is why I love tracking. I’m able to connect how many words I write or how long it takes to meet a certain goal to a time.

Yesterday, we had family members unexpectedly show up for a visit. That meant the day I planned went out the window. For me – Family> Word Count. I can make up a word count. I can’t make up time. Not to get morbid, but there’s going to be a last time that I talk to each family member and I don’t know when that last time is going to be. So, I will always choose to make time for people over competing an arbitarary goal.

Besides, the problem wasn’t the visitors. The problem was that my mind went wonky after the visit. I gave up. I could have written more or pulled up one of my favorite novels to dissect (which is also a fun time for me). Instead, I let my negative thoughts have free reign without questioning the thought that the day was spent.

I looked back to when our company left. You know what time it was? 5:00 pm. Do you know what time I get off work? 5:00 pm. If I wasn’t convinced that the day was lost, I could have flowed into my after-work mode and written or worked on a project for 10 minutes because the hardest part for me is to get my butt in the chair and set aside an amount of time to get the work done.

Such a work in progress, y’all. But I’m observing and learning and making tiny changes.

Keep moving forward.
