A problem in your writing is a problem in your life. I’ve heard that piece of wisdom more than once and I’m finding it to be true.
I have reached a sort of all-hands-on-deck situation with my writing and health goals. Both are not so far gone that it can’t be corrected, but they do warrant a change. It’s a concern.
One, I thought that I would be able to write after attending yoga class, the class that emphasizes relaxation and stretching. The only thing I wanted to do after that class was go to bed. I had no brain power left to write. I barely met my daily goal of posting about this writing adventure and sending out my weekly newsletter. Even though I planned for Monday to be a low word-count day, it hurt to see not a word on my spreadsheet, y’all.
Monday went off the rails because Sunday was off the rails. My brain started to go to not-so-happy places, so I went to bed late which meant waking up late and not getting in my standard 1.5 hour morning writing session. The morning session, by the way, which sets me up for the day because it’s a win.
I gotta admit, it was hard to get to yoga class last night. I reminded myself that the win is showing up. The class is in a community center complex that is attached to a library. Maybe I can go to the class early to write a page or two and then roll into yoga class. It won’t be a full writing session, but it will be just a little bit further.
Because my weight is going in the wrong direction at the same time I’m sleeping more, I’ll need to account that increase in sleep in my plans and also increase my activity level to where it was in the summer when I was walking regularly in the park. I can either join a gym to walk on a treadmill which would be good because it will get me out the house, depend on my fun YouTube videos which will be easier to skip or layer up and brave the cold and get to the park. Now that the days are getting longer, walking in the park is possible.
So. It does look like my writing and my health goals are hand in hand with each other as well as my mental health.
Keep moving forward.
