Day 80 Reporting – 2,024 Words/Day Process Log – Outlining

As part of a class I’m taking on novel structure, I’m outlining a novel. Now, currently I’m outlining using headers while I’m writing my story. I fell off from outlining the last story I wrote which means I have to do some clean up work which I don’t ever want to do again.

I’m realizing that by outlining stories that I read in the same way that I’m outlining the stories I’m writing, I’ll be able to store that structure in my subconscious. I can see that after outlining several books of a genre that I can “feel” when the story structure is off with my own work.

I’ve heard of outlining before, but being in the process of writing a story and studying structure it made it clear how important it is. It’s another way of feeding my subconscious, another way of wrestling with the text.

Keep moving forward. Keep getting better.
