Day 83 Reporting – 2,024 Words/Day Process Log – Congratulations

I initially took on this challenge to be more consistent with my writing. I gotta say, it worked. I’m honestly amazed at how much I’ve written and how much I’ve accomplished so far this year.

I guess it’s also something I’m noticing because I’m pulling together my tax information. I keep a separate bank account for my writing deposits and expenses plus a separate credit card for writing so it’s easy to pull the information together during tax season.

In 2024, I made 2 official short story sales that I was paid for and 1 pseudo sale. I call the third one a pseudo sale because I don’t have a signed contract.

Needless to say, I haven’t had a consistent writing practice in years. One thing that I made sure to do was finish my weekly newsletter. If I didn’t do anything else, that got done. But a writing routine? Even with the time freed up by no longer having a commute, I just didn’t see the point.

It’s amazing the stories we tell ourselves and how those stories can determine our actions. Nothing changed from last year to this year except my perspective. And hey, sometimes that perspective change comes after taking physical action.

I’m playing around with my schedule. What’s been working so far is to write new words in the morning and then after I log off from work, work on the admin/business side of things and read and study books and stories I love.

Twyla Tharp wrote “Reading is my superpower.” I love that quote. And I’m beginning to realize how true it is. Reading is how I find new-to-me writing techniques I want to study. Reading gives me an idea of what certain editors are looking for. Reading is non-negotiable for me even if it’s the last thing I do at night.

These are all changes and it’s just the end of March. I wonder how the end of this year will look. Anyway, congratulations to me. I’m still here.

Keep moving forward. Keep getting better.
