Day 86 Reporting – 2,024 Words/Day Process Log – Be Kind

I’ve quit writing several times in my life by this point. One time I quit because the accepted knowledge was that wriring was a hard, tough business and you had to have a thick skin. I figured I didn’t want to spend my free time from my regular job to do something that was stressful so I got in the habit of writing and sticking things in my drawer and later on, keeping stories on my computer.

I mean, what was presented as the typical writing life didn’t sound like much fun. The whole be-tough thing didn’t work as a motivator for me. It didn’t stop me from writing, it only stopped me from submitting my stories.

What I’m finding out now, though, is that we all have diffferent styles and differnet ways of working. The “tough” way doesn’t work for me. Was does work is having fun. I mean, I have a job where I get to work with cool people and learn about things I’m interested in and it pays well. Why in the world would I intentionally walk into nonsense? How in the world could I be consistent in the long term doing something that causes pain?

The best thing I can do for my writing is to be kind to myself and have fun. That’s the way I look forward to coming to the page each day.

Keep moving forward. Keep getting better.
