Day 9 Reporting – 2,024 Words/Day Process Log – More Changes

More changes, well, more adjustments. In order to try to get more words in and on the advice of the writing course I’m currently taking, I went from waking up in the morning to journal to waking up in the morning and immediately writing fiction. Now. This worked. I was able to write approximately 500 words than usual in my morning session.

However, taking that route meant that I couldn’t write my morning pages – 3 pages of journaling. What I found was that those thoughts that I normally would have written down had no place to go so they just kept circling in my brain, pullig focus.

This morning, I went back to my morning pages. I feel much better. I wrote less. I’m not gonna lie. My mind is clearer, though. Like my health, my goal for writing is sustainability. There is no end date. So, if something isn’t working or if I’m not having a good time, then that something must change.

Novel Update

I write lean. So, when I cycle through my previous day’s work, I have to add a lot. I’m not talking about the standard dropped words. I’m talking about motivation and inner thoughts of the character.

What this means, is that I can fool myself into thinking this novel is only going to be 50,000 words. It’s a nice lie that I’m going to cling to even though I’m about 12,000 words in and not even at the 12% mark for the story.

Are you crying? No. That’s me? That’s me hoping that I’ve not been writing so long that I don’t remember story structure? Yes. Yes, let’s go with that.

Short Story

The first draft is sitting on the computer. This was a combination writing into the dark and scribbling some exercises in a spiral notebook to hash out the characters. By the way, I love spiral notebooks. I order those puppies by the dozen.

Having two ongoing projects along with this blog and my newsletter and my 2024 dream projects mean that I have a lot to focus on. It’s good for me. Now. If June rolls around and nothing is finished that could mean this strategy is another procrastination tool. Which is not cool. We’ll see though.

No matter what, the plan is to compile these blog posts into an ebook and the essays from my newsletter into an ebook. The publishing of both of those non-fiction projects are for next year.

I’m just trying to remember what writing for fun looks like for now.

Keep moving forward.
